You can enjoy authentic Hakata ramen in Singapore, and the excellent tonkotsu (pork bone) soup and firm noodles are sure to keep you coming back for more!
Tonkotsu Ramen Specialty Restaurant “Hakata Ikkousha Ramen“
Score
- Overall ★★★
- Meal ★★★★
- Atmosphere ★★
- Service ★
- Cost Performance ★★
I gave the food a high rating of four stars because the quality of tonkotsu ramen available in Japan can be enjoyed directly in Singapore. Overall rating is 3 stars based on cost performance. But ramen in Singapore is expensive everywhere..
How to go
If you are going by MRT, take Exit A from Tanjong Pagar Station and walk in the direction of Tanjong Pagar Plaza. Then pass Tanjong Pagar Plaza, turn onto Peck Seah Street, and you will find the Cantonment Police Complex on your right.
If you take a bus, you can get off at the Tanjong Pagar Plaza or Craig Road stop, depending on the bus number.
Meal
The menu is displayed on the outside of the restaurant.
All menus look very attractive.
I ordered the special tonkotsu ramen and mentaiko (cod roe) bowl.
About 10 minutes after ordering, the ramen was first served.
The amount of chashu pork overflows from the plate. It looks very impressive.
Also, the Tonkotsu soup is very rich and high quality.
The firm, thin noodles are also perfect.
I am very happy to be able to enjoy this quality of tonkotsu ramen in a foreign country.
Here is the mentaiko bowl.
A large mentaiko (cod roe) is on top of the rice.
You proceed to eat it, breaking it up with a spoon. It is delicious, and a devil’s food that makes me feel guilty.
This combination makes me very full.
I recommend that you visit the restaurant and make sure you are hungry.
You can take all the red ginger and hot spicy takana you can eat. We are very happy with the service.
Atmosphere
Here is the appearance of the restaurant.
The red sign is very prominent.
Founded in Singapore in 1994, the restaurant’s name “Ikkosha” means “let’s live happily together.
The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere with the warmth of wood, and can be used for a variety of occasions, from dining alone to having dinner with family and friends. In addition, the restaurant’s interior, decorated with tableware imported from Japan and Japanese advertising posters, gives a very Japanese atmosphere.
Service
Since this is a ramen shop, one wonders how much to expect in terms of customer service, but the order is simply submitted on a piece of paper with a mark and your preferences.
Very easy.
There is the comfort of a restaurant where you are not served.
This style of ordering seems to be common at ramen shops in Singapore.
Cost performance
- Special Tonkotsu Ramen. $18.5
- Mentaiko Bowl $5
The price is slightly higher because I ordered the special.
I think $5 for a bowl of mentaiko rice is a cosy price.
This price is reasonable considering Singapore price.
Summary
I like ramen with a thick, rich flavor, so I really liked Hakata Ikkousha’s strong, punchy tonkotsu ramen.
If you have similar tastes, I highly recommend to visit there.
In my opinion, it is one of the five best tonkotsu ramen shops in Singapore.
This is a ramen restaurant that I will certainly repeat.
