Pros/Cons
Atmosphere
Appearance
The restaurant is located on the first floor of Robertson Walk, where many Japanese restaurants are located. You can see the inside of the restaurant from the outside, and the atmosphere is very open and easy to enter. The restaurant is quite spacious, so you can easily find it by relying on google map.
Interior
Only counter seating is available inside the restaurant, and tables are located outside the restaurant. In front of the counter seats, the chef grills teppan-yaki right in front of you. It is very live and entertaining.
This style seems to be especially appreciated by non-Japanese, and many people were taking videos of it. The waiter was encouraging people to take videos, so I could tell that this is a restaurant full of hospitality where people can enjoy this kind of entertainment as well.
When I visited around past 7pm on a weekend, there were only two groups of customers, but by the time I left, about 80% of the seats were occupied. I guess it depends on the time of day, but it would be safer to make a reservation in advance.
Food
Menu
The restaurant’s most popular menu item is “Hakata Tonpeiyaki”. In addition, there is a wide variety of Hakata okonomiyaki on the menu. Yakisoba and fried rice are also prepared on the teppan. The menu items with a red “like” mark are recommended by the restaurant.
There is also a menu of snacks and grilled vegetables. You should definitely ask for them along with the main teppanyaki.
Since this was my first visit, I ordered mainly from the menu with the recommendation mark. Now, I would like to introduce the menu items I actually ordered.
Eating
Beer is a must when it comes to teppan-yaki🍺 Cheers!!
Q Potato Salad $8
Following the lesson that we can know how good a restaurant is by eating their potato salad, I ordered it first. First of all, the appearance. It is very beautiful. The ham on the side is a distinctive feature. Also, as in a teppanyaki restaurant, the sauce is poured over the potato salad. How could this not be delicious?
Wrapping the potato salad with ham makes it an exquisite dish! It is recommended to eat it with alcohol as it is a very flavorful dish!
Roasted Hakata Mentai $12
Here is the second item I ordered. Speaking of Hakata, mentaiko (cod roe) is a must. It is exquisitely seared to the same quality as the ones you would get in Japan. It goes great with sake.
However, each plate is rather small, so you may think, “$12 for this…”.
Tonpei yaki $18
Here is the store’s signature dish, Tonpei Yaki. The dough with plenty of eggs is very beautiful. It is a delight from the outside. The combination of the tender egg, sauce, and mayonnaise is perfect, and you can gobble it up.
I can only be thankful that Japanese local cuisine can be so delicious in Singapore. It is just the right size for one person to eat. Please order it!
High ball $15
The next drink to order after beer at a teppanyaki restaurant is a highball. I had a glass after glass! The charm of the highball is that it goes well with any dish, but on this day, the combination with the seared cod roe was the best.
Garlic rice (1pax) $6
I ordered this garlic rice to finish off the meal. The price is reasonable and you can have a full bowl of rice. It is full of garlic and its aroma is very appetizing. The rice is served immediately after it is cooked on the teppan (iron plate), so it is hot and flaky at its best.
I think it is a must-have dish to end the meal at this restaurant. The quantity is just right for the end of the meal. It’s so delicious!
Access
The store is located on the ground floor of Robertson walk, the closest MRT station is Fort Canning. If you take the bus, get off at UE Sq and it will take less than 5 minutes to walk there.
Summary
It is quite rare to find such an authentic teppanyaki restaurant in Singapore. Japanese quality is firmly guaranteed.
In addition, the staff’s attentiveness was very pleasant, and the restaurant was a good place to experience the spirit of hospitality.
I think this restaurant can be used for a wide range of purposes, from a casual meal with friends to a date or an anniversary. Also, if you take your foreign friends there, they will be very pleased with the teppanyaki performance.
According to google map information, the restaurant is open until 10:30pm, but in reality the restaurant seems to be open until around 2am. Since they also have a late night menu, I think it is a good place to use for after-parties or after-third-parties for drinking parties.
Everyone, please check it out!
