This time, I would like to introduce “The Other Room,” a bar located in the Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel in Orchard. I had a hard time finding the entrance, but once inside, I found a very nice space.

Impression
First of all, it is difficult to find the entrance. This is because there is no signage at all. You only realize that it is a bar when you see the sign on the door. The door itself is plain looking, as if it were an employee service entrance.
However, once inside, you will find a really nice bar space. As you would expect from a first-class hotel. It is inevitable that you will be struck by the gap between the two. I wonder if that is part of the production’s calculation 🧐
It is not an overly formal bar, so you can enjoy a drink in a quiet atmosphere or have a good time with your friends. Although it is a bar in a hotel, it can be used for a wide variety of purposes.
It is definitely a very exciting bar, so everyone should definitely check it out 🍸
Atmosphere
The restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel in Orchard. It is a five-star hotel in the middle of Orchard.
Appearance
As I mentioned at the beginning of this article, I didn’t know where the entrance is, because the entrance is located at what looks like an employee service door. It is hard to imagine that there is a bar behind this door.
This is the lobby on the ground floor of the hotel. The dark brown door at the back center of this photo is the entrance to the bar. If you get a little closer, it looks like this.
There is no signage for the bar. I thought, “No way,” but when I approached the door, I found a sign. Reading it, you will finally realize that this is the bar “The Other Room”.
On the sticker is a QR code, and if you have not made a reservation in advance, you will be prompted to make a reservation here to wait your turn. You will be contacted as soon as a seat becomes available.
Interior
Once you open the door and step inside, you will find yourself in a different world. It is a wonderful bar with a very cool and stylish presentation.
This is the bar counter. You will be overwhelmed by the bottles of whiskey lined up in a narrow space.
There is also plenty of sofa seating behind the bar counter. It is not a very formal bar, so it can be used for a lively drink with a group of people. In fact, it was crowded with many group customers.
The lighting is dim and the background music is not too loud, making it very comfortable. You can drink alcohol comfortably. The decorations inside the restaurant are very cool, and I think it is a good place to spend a special time such as a date or an anniversary.
Drink
Now I would like to introduce the drinks I actually ordered.
First, I was served snacks and a Welcome Drink (bottle on the right). It is a very tasty coffee-flavored drink (not sure if it is alcoholic or not). The snacks were a little bit bland, to be honest, as it was a bit chilly,
Monkey Shoulder Highball（$21）
Looking at the shelves on the bar counter, I knew instantly that I had to order a whiskey! I instantly realized that I had to order a highball on the waiter’s recommendation.
Monkey Shoulder is a whisky brand from Scotland. The whisky has a sweet aroma of vanilla and honey, and a spicy flavor of cinnamon and chocolate.
This is very tasty. This highball has a refreshing and invigorating taste. It has an elegant taste that is different from Japanese brand highballs.
Monkey Man ($27)
The next cocktail I ordered was this one. This cocktail was one of the most highly recommended cocktails on the menu, so I was curious and ordered it.
A gin-based cocktail that is refreshing, fruity and very easy to drink. Recommended for women 🍸
En Garde ($26)
I told them I wanted one more “Strong and Bitter” drink, and they recommended this cocktail. I was very satisfied with the taste, which was just as I requested. However, the charm of this drink was not only in its taste but also in its presentation.
First, they cool the glasses with dry ice.
Then they bring out a treasure chest-like container that looks like something out of this game or movie. When you open it, wondering what this is, a bottle of alcohol is placed inside.
The bottle also looks like something you might have seen in a movie or something, like something warriors in medieval Europe would have drank. It is very exciting. This bottle is also chilled to a crisp.
The drink is completed by pouring this liquor into a chilled glass. This is the first time I have encountered such a chic presentation of a cocktail. It is a wonderful hospitality that only a first-class bar can offer, where you can enjoy not only the taste of the drink but also the process of drinking it. ☺️
Access
It is located on the ground floor of the Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel in the middle of Orchard. The nearest bus stop is “Orchard” or “Newton”. The nearest bus stop is “Bukit Merah Bus Interchange”
Summary
I was able to find a bar that is a hideaway for those in the know. The gap between the exterior and the interior makes the bar even more appealing. It is such a nice bar that it would be pretty cool to know such a bar. The staff is very friendly, caring, and comfortable.
If you are planning to go out for drinks at an after-party, you should definitely consider it as one of the candidates. In that case, don’t forget to make a reservation in advance 😄.
Just because it’s a hotel bar doesn’t mean it’s too expensive, so it can be used for a wide range of purposes, from a quiet drink to a lively party. Please check it out!
